Costa Rica: the Volcano
Another of our excursions in Costa Rica was to the tallest active volcano in Costa Rica.
If you stand at the highest point of the park on a clear day, you can see both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Unfortunately, while we were there you could barely see 100 ft. in front of you. We didn't actually spend very much time at the main crater, because there was too much fog to really see anything.
Look! It's me with a bunch of fog! I promise I was on top of a volcano.
The most interesting part of the trip was not really the volcano, but the rest of the park, If you walk away from the crater all you can see is fog and it kind of seems like you are going to fall off the volcano any second, but if you want far enough, there is a plain and then a huge hill. We walked around there for a while.
When you are on the plain, it feels like you're on a different planet. I have never been anywhere like this before.
We found some really steep trails through the rain forest on the hill, which was fun.
If you are ever near Cartago, you should go walk around the park because it's beautiful, surreal, and unique.
